This crest was hand drawn by a crew member (Rich Lindsey) on board ELOKOMIN.

Explanation of the crest: Drawn sometime in 1958 by MM3 Rich Lindsey, M Gang.

This is how he explains it to his skipper who was present at the time and had called him to his stateroom to inquire about a ship's crest.

He had informed his commanding officer that "as a tanker we should have a border consisting of four sections of fueling hose connected by four flanges. The five rays of yellow emanating upward and outward from the bridge represent the ship's five departments, Operations, Gunnery, Deck, Communications and Engineering."
