Angelo Trippy was the founder of the USS Elokomin
Reunion Association.
He was a WWII veteran who served on the "Elo"
as an EM2 from 1943-1945. After returning to civilian life, he received his degree in B.A. by attending SUNY, evenings, for
six years. His first career was in the retail business managing a large discount store.
A few years later he switched careers and became
an instructor in the business department at Erie County Community College, where he taught until he retired in 1985.
Shortly before retiring he had a great desire
to locate some of his former shipmates and have a reunion. After a year of advertising in newspapers and periodicals nationwide,
he located enough people and made arrangements to have the first USS ELOKOMIN reunion. This took place in September of 1986
in Niagara Falls, New York.
At
that time, it was decided to have these reunions every two years. On March 23, 1993 Angie passed away, but not before fulfilling
his dream - leaving a well-organized reunion committee, to keep the association alive and growing."
